Lindsborg is a city in McPherson County. It is located approximately 15 miles south of Salina off I 70. Lindsborg is part of Unified School District 400, the home of Smoky Valley High School, Lindsborg Middle School and Soderstrom Elementary.
Lindsborg is known as "Little Sweden" because it was settled by Swedish immigrants in the late 19th century. The City of Lindsborg was settled in the spring of 1869 by a group of Swedish immigrants from the Värmland province of Sweden led by Pastor Olof Olsson. They envisioned a community rich in culture, learning, religion, business and farming. These values remain strong today as evidenced by a city that is rich in the performing and visual arts; home to Smoky Valley School District and Bethany College; Baptist, Catholic, Covenant, Lutheran and Methodist churches thrive; a place where retail, industry and business thrives; and agricultural continues to play an important role in the community. The downtown features gift shops that specialize in Swedish souvenirs, including various sizes of dala horses. Today, thirty percent of the population is of Swedish heritage.
Lindsborg has long been noted for the Svensk Hyllningsfest and other efforts to remember its Swedish pioneer heritage. Svensk Hyllningsfest is a biennial celebration held in October of odd-numbered years since 1941, to celebrate the town's Swedish heritage.
According to the Salina Multiple Listing Service for the year 2010 the average sales price for a Single Family home in Lindsborg was $175,714 and the median sales price at $190,000 with average days on the market at 138 days.
